Based on the eponymous play by Alexander Ostrovsky, the opera "Snow Maiden" is one of the most interesting compositions of Russian classical music. The composer regarded this opera as his best work. The first performance of "The Snow Maden" took place on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre on January 29 (February 10), 1882.
