Anthology: The Russian Piano Nocturne

The choice of music and its variety is a problem encountered by each and every creative teacher. There are three notebooks in this collection by Muzyka Publishers, The Russian Piano Nocturne. These works by Russian composers of the 19th and 20th centuries open up unique material in a wide choice of pieces for students in children’s music schools, music colleges and universities. There are also works by composers who have earned classical status and opuses by less famous authors, popular in their own day but almost forgotten today.

The editor of these collections and the author of articles and academic commentaries is Regina Glazunova, a professor in the general course and piano teaching methodology department at the N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory.

This publication is the first and most complete anthology of Russian piano nocturnes over the century-long period of the genre’s development. These notebooks are arranged in chronological order and allow readers to follow the history of the genre since the time of its first appearance through the beginning of the 20th century. Some of these pieces are published here for the first time, or after an extended absence. Of special interest are the contextual materials about the nocturne genre, composers and the works presented in the collection.

Each of the books exists in both a traditional printed version and in electronic form: you can find both the entire collection and individual pieces in the E-MUSICA mobile application.
